My first and hopefully last kidney stone!
I don't want to go into tons of details on this...just have good pictures to share. It was a bummer and I gave birth to it on March 12th. The best news is that Mitchell came on March 13th and he's way better news!!!! He was born at 1:20 p.m. He weighed 8 lbs. 15 ozs. and 21 inches long. He tried to beat his mom's weight and almost did, Heather was 9lbs 1 1/2 ozs and 22 inches. Her labor was almost exactly the same as I had with her. Memories...
But in honor of Mitchell, I have a tatoo on my right hip! It stands for little Mitch! Seriously, it's the surgeon's initials. His name is Lawrence Maynes!!! Is that too funny or what??? Luckily I'm not wearing a bikini on the trip because I can't get the tatoo to scrub off yet. It's one strong permanent marker I guess. He had to initail my right side because that's the side the stone was on. I've seen them do that in surgery. They mark the correct knee and then on the wrong knee they put the universal "no" sign and the word no! Guess you don't want to wake up with the wrong knee replacement. My friend was in the surgery taking the x-ray pictures. She copied an extra one for me. I made sure there was a female there because I didn't want any of the guys I work with up there seeing me spread eagle! I figured if Heather was going to go through that, I could too. Only difference was I was completely put under before they strapped me up and I never saw or heard anything! They give you this great medicine that makes you forget! So I vote for that any day. My picture shows the stone blockage. They inject die into the ureter and you can see where mine gets blocked up. They go in there with a laser and break it up. After that they put a stent going from my kidney to my bladder. It's attached with strings and they've been hanging out my pee pee all weekend and taped to the inside of my thigh! I get it pulled out this morning and I'm ready. Sorry, I wasn't going to to go into detail. All in all, it's pretty amazing what they're able to do. I wish it hadn't been so close to when Mitchell was born, but at least it's oveer and I'm feeling better. My stone didn't weigh 9 pounds so that's great news! Heather is doing great and she did a great job. Hard work but worth it!!! Bye, Janine
